TL;DR
Atomstack A5 Pro 20W is the 20W SKU on the Atomstack atomstack a5 pro line. One of the cheapest ways to try laser engraving. Verify optical power on the listing: do not assume combined-watt marketing.
Best for
What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
Fastest A5 Pro tier
~12–18 min for a 10 × 10 cm photo and ~6–10 min for a 3 mm basswood square in our benchmark, the shortest times of the line.
Basswood up to 8 mm
The only A5 Pro tier that reaches 8 mm basswood in our profile, with air assist and multiple passes.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
Atomstack A5 Pro 20W is the versatile hobby / side-business SKU: clean engraving and light wood or leather cuts with comparable benchmarks on Maker Atlas.
Skip if you
Open-frame: glasses and exhaust required. Not a CO₂ replacement for clear acrylic or heavy thick-stock production.
Pros
- Fastest of the A5 Pro tiers in our benchmark: ~12–18 min for a 10 × 10 cm photo and ~6–10 min for a 3 mm basswood square
- Basswood up to 8 mm in our profile, against 5 mm for the 10W
- Fill speeds of 50–120 mm/s, several times the lower tiers
Cons
- Discontinued: a used 20W module is the most expensive part to replace if it fails
- 200 mm/s top speed on the A5 frame limits how much of the extra power shows on large engravings
- Widest spot of the line (~0.10 mm): not the pick for very fine photo work

Pro tips
Use air assist for cuts, lower scan speed for photo engraving. Multiple passes at moderate speed beat one aggressive pass. Check the flagship tier’s cut benchmark if you quote production times to customers.

Common questions
What does the A5 Pro 20W add over the 10W?
Mostly speed and thickness. In our benchmark, photo fills drop from ~18–28 min to ~12–18 min and the 3 mm basswood square from ~9–15 min to ~6–10 min. Our profile raises the basswood limit from 5 mm to 8 mm, with several passes near the top.
Is the A5 frame a bottleneck for the 20W?
Partly. The A5 Pro frame tops out at 200 mm/s in our profile, so on large photo fills the gain over the 10W is smaller than the power difference suggests. On cutting, where speed is limited by the laser rather than the motors, the 20W makes a clear difference.
Used A5 Pro 20W or a current 20W machine?
If the used A5 Pro 20W costs well under its $299–399 range and the module tests fine, it is a fair deal for cutting thin wood. Otherwise a current 20W with warranty and a faster frame is safer, since the A5 Pro is discontinued and replacement modules are the main risk.
