Longer quotes a 0.06 × 0.06 mm spot for the 10W module, against 0.08 × 0.08 mm for the 5W and 0.08 × 0.10 mm for the 20W. That makes it the Ray5 to pick for small text and photo detail, even if its fills are slow: about 5–10 mm/s in our benchmarks.
How thick can the Ray5 10W cut?
Longer rates it for 8 mm basswood in one pass. In our benchmarks a 10 × 10 cm square in 3 mm basswood takes about 14–24 min at 2–3 mm/s, so plan around 5 mm as the realistic limit in passes. Air assist (in Longer's cutting kit) helps a lot.
Ray5 10W or 20W?
On Longer's store in October 2026 the basic sets were $239.99 (10W) and $399.99 (20W). The 20W is rated for 15 mm basswood in one pass and cuts our 3 mm square in about 9–15 min, but its spot is wider and Longer lists a slightly smaller 400 × 365 mm area. Detail-first engravers keep the 10W; cutters pay the $160.
