7.5W

TL;DR

The Ray7S 7.5W is the entry version of Longer's new enclosed laser: $279.99 for the Basic Set on Longer's store in October 2026. It puts a 0.06 × 0.06 mm diode inside a Class 1 cabinet with Klipper firmware, 600 mm/s motion, Wi-Fi and a 305 × 310 mm bed. That is twice the bed of the small enclosed lasers at this price, but cutting stays limited to thin wood and card.

What makes this machine stand out

Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.

  • Class 1 under $300

    A closed, Class 1 cabinet with a 305 × 310 mm bed for $279.99 in October 2026.

  • 0.06 × 0.06 mm spot

The finest laser spot Longer lists for the Ray7S, for sharper portraits and small lettering.

Our verdict

Ideal if you

The 7.5W Ray7S is one of the cheapest ways to get a Class 1 enclosed diode with a usable 305 × 310 mm bed, Wi-Fi and Klipper firmware. Its fine spot suits portraits, small text and detailed gifts.

Skip if you

It is an engraver: cuts beyond thin basswood and card take many passes. The bed is smaller than the open Ray7's 405 × 410 mm. The Ray7S is new, with no independent tests of cabinet sealing, exhaust or long-term reliability yet.

Pros

  • Class 1 enclosure for $279.99 (October 2026), with a 305 × 310 mm bed far larger than the mini enclosed lasers
  • Finest spot of the range at 0.06 × 0.06 mm according to Longer, helped by Klipper vibration compensation for sharp details
  • Low power keeps paper, card and thin leather easy to engrave without burning through

Cons

  • Cutting tops out around 2–3 mm basswood per pass by our estimate
  • Slow on large photo fills: about 24–36 min for 10 × 10 cm by our estimate
  • No air pump included at this price; it is an option

Practical notes

Beginner notes

This profile is the 7.5W version of the Longer Ray7S. Take it if you want a closed, Class 1 laser for engraving gifts, tags and photos at home and rarely cut. Compare the other Ray7S versions with the chips above if cutting matters: the cabinet, bed and Klipper firmware are the same, only the module changes. No independent review is available yet.

Pro tips

Even with a Class 1 cabinet, route the exhaust outdoors or use a filter: the smoke still has to go somewhere. Keep cuts to paper, card, felt and 2–3 mm basswood in two passes. Klipper's vibration compensation helps most on fast photo fills, so test higher speeds than you would on an older diode.

Common questions

Do I need safety glasses with the Ray7S 7.5W?

Longer sells the Ray7S as a Class 1 laser: with the lid closed, the cabinet blocks the beam, so you can watch the job without glasses. Keep glasses for any work with the lid open, such as alignment.

Ray7S 7.5W or Ray7S 15W?

The 15W costs $369.99 against $279.99 for the 7.5W Basic Set (Longer store, October 2026). The $90 step roughly doubles cutting capacity; stay with the 7.5W if you engrave almost exclusively.

What can the Ray7S 7.5W cut?

Longer does not publish per-version cutting figures. By our estimate it cuts paper, card, felt, thin leather and about 2–3 mm basswood per pass; 3 mm plywood needs two passes or more.

Creality Falcon A1C 5W laser engraver by Creality

Creality · Diode · $269 – $299

The Falcon A1C 5W puts Creality's 5W diode in the same closed Class 1 box as the 10W: 150 × 150 mm bed, motorized lifting platform, auto-focus. It is an engraving machine first: cork, bamboo, leather, slate and plywood look sharp, but cutting is limited to card and thin wood. The 10W module can be added later.

Acmer K1 7W laser engraver by Acmer

Acmer · Diode · $230

The K1 7W is the middle version of Acmer's enclosed mini engraver: same 150 × 150 mm area, 2.4 kg box, lid and tilt sensors and exhaust fan as the other versions, for $229.99. It engraves wood, leather, paper and dark acrylic at a reasonable pace and cuts thin wood with several passes. Acmer's chart gives up to 10 mm of plywood, without stating the number of passes.

Sculpfun S10 10W laser engraver by Sculpfun

Sculpfun · Diode · $270

Sculpfun S10 10W (2022) is a mid-size open-frame engraver with a sturdier industrial frame than S9, ~385 mm work area, and detachable laser cover. Positioned between budget S9 and S30 families for makers who want better rigidity without Ultra pricing.
