TL;DR
The K1 7W is the middle version of Acmer's enclosed mini engraver: same 150 × 150 mm area, 2.4 kg box, lid and tilt sensors and exhaust fan as the other versions, for $229.99. It engraves wood, leather, paper and dark acrylic at a reasonable pace and cuts thin wood with several passes. Acmer's chart gives up to 10 mm of plywood, without stating the number of passes.

What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
Balanced for engraving
Engraves a 10 × 10 cm photo on plywood in about 18–26 min in our benchmark profile, with light cutting as a bonus.
Enclosed box under $250
Lid sensor, tilt sensor and exhaust fan in a closed box sold $229.99 on Acmer's store.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
The 7W is the middle ground of the K1 line: noticeably faster engraving than the 3.5W and enough power for occasional cuts in thin wood, in the same enclosed 2.4 kg box. For gifts, coasters, leather tags and paper projects, it covers most needs.
Skip if you
Cutting stays slow and the 150 × 150 mm area limits it to small objects. There is no camera, Wi-Fi or auto-focus, and the cutting chart is a manufacturer claim without the number of passes.
Pros
- Good balance for engraving: about 18–26 min for a 10 × 10 cm photo on plywood in our benchmark profile
- Enclosed box with lid and tilt sensors for $229.99
- Cuts 3 mm basswood with a few passes, enough for occasional tags and ornaments
Cons
- Cutting is slow: about 8–14 min for a 10 × 10 cm square in 3 mm basswood in our benchmark profile
- No camera, Wi-Fi or auto-focus
- 150 × 150 mm area: small objects only

Practical notes
Beginner notes
This profile is the 7W version of the Acmer K1. Compare it with the 12W: pick the 7W if you mostly engrave and cut only now and then; box, area and software are identical. For engraving alone, the 3.5W saves $30.
Pro tips
For cuts, use several passes at moderate speed rather than one very slow pass, and keep the lid closed so the fan clears smoke. Start from the ACMER Studio presets and fine-tune power on scrap of the same material.

Common questions
Can the K1 7W cut wood?
Thin wood, yes, with several passes. Acmer's chart gives up to 10 mm of plywood without stating speed or passes; our benchmark profile cuts a 10 × 10 cm square in 3 mm basswood in about 8–14 min. Beyond 3 mm, cutting gets slow.
K1 7W or K1 12W?
For $40 more ($269.99 against $229.99 on Acmer's store, October 2026), the 12W roughly halves cutting time and engraves wood a little faster. If you mostly engrave, the 7W is enough.
Can the K1 7W engrave metal?
Only coated or painted metal, by removing the coating. Bare stainless steel or aluminum needs an infrared or fiber laser, which the K1 does not offer.

Creality · Diode · $269 – $299
The Falcon A1C 5W puts Creality's 5W diode in the same closed Class 1 box as the 10W: 150 × 150 mm bed, motorized lifting platform, auto-focus. It is an engraving machine first: cork, bamboo, leather, slate and plywood look sharp, but cutting is limited to card and thin wood. The 10W module can be added later.

Sculpfun · Diode · $270
Sculpfun S10 10W (2022) is a mid-size open-frame engraver with a sturdier industrial frame than S9, ~385 mm work area, and detachable laser cover. Positioned between budget S9 and S30 families for makers who want better rigidity without Ultra pricing.
