TL;DR
The Polar 2 50W RF uses a metal RF CO₂ source instead of a glass tube: faster engraving (up to 2,000 mm/s with 2G acceleration), a 0.07 mm spot, air cooling and a rated life of up to 30,000 hours. Same 710 × 360 mm bed, 16 MP camera, auto-focus and rotary as the 70W glass version, for $1,300 more. Specs are OMTech's; no independent long-term review yet.
Best for
What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
RF source for fast, fine engraving
Up to 2,000 mm/s with 2G acceleration and a spot of about 0.07 mm (OMTech figures). Photo fills and small text come out faster and crisper than on the glass-tube Polar 2.
Air-cooled, long-life tube
No water loop to fill, monitor or protect from frost. OMTech rates the RF tube for up to 30,000 hours and covers it for 24 months.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
The RF Polar 2 is built for engraving volume: photo fills, logos on batches of coasters, detailed acrylic. Fast pulsing, a fine spot and air cooling make it a low-fuss machine for a small business that runs it every day.
Skip if you
If most of your hours are spent cutting thick acrylic or plywood, the 70W glass version does more for less money. No pass-through, a footprint of about 1.2 m wide, and figures that still await independent testing.
Pros
- RF metal tube: much faster raster engraving and a finer 0.07 mm spot than glass-tube desktops
- Air-cooled: no water loop to fill, monitor or protect from freezing
- Tube rated up to 30,000 hours with a 24-month tube warranty
- Same complete package as the 70W: 16 MP camera, auto-focus, air assist, exhaust fan, rotary, LightBurn key
Cons
- No pass-through, so long sheets must be cut down first
- Brand-new model: speed and precision figures are OMTech's, not yet independently tested

Practical notes
Beginner notes
This profile is the 50W RF SKU of the Polar 2. Compare it with the 70W glass version: the lower wattage is not a downgrade in practice, since RF sources pulse faster and engrave finer. Choose it if engraving volume and low maintenance matter more than cutting thick stock.
Pro tips
Use the speed headroom for raster jobs, not for cutting: thick acrylic still wants slow passes. Keep the air filter and exhaust path clean, since the RF tube relies on air cooling. Verify camera alignment with a test mark before batch jobs.

Common questions
Why is the 50W RF more expensive than the 70W glass Polar 2?
RF metal tubes cost more to build. In exchange they pulse much faster for engraving, produce a finer spot, last up to about 30,000 hours (versus about 10,000 for glass) and are air-cooled. The 70W glass tube still cuts thicker material.
Does the Polar 2 RF need water cooling?
No. OMTech lists it as air-cooled with no water tank, which removes the chiller, coolant and freezing concerns of glass tubes.
Can the Polar 2 engrave metal?
Not bare metal: CO₂ wavelengths reflect off it. Anodized aluminum and coated metals mark well, and bare steel needs a marking compound or a fiber laser.

xTool · CO₂ · $2,999 – $5,069
The P2S refines the original P2 with better software and autofocus. Same 55W CO₂ class for acrylic and wood production. Still xTool's main enclosed CO₂ below the P3 flagship: choose P3 if you need 80W and automation; P2S if 55W and budget fit.

Gweike · CO₂ · $1,659 – $2,539
Gweike Cloud Pro offers enclosed CO₂ cutting with cloud features and competitive pricing vs xTool P2. Good mid-premium CO₂ if you want LightBurn and community support. Verify local warranty before buying.

xTool · CO₂ · $3,399 – $6,609
The xTool P2 is a 55W enclosed CO₂ laser with a large work area and camera alignment. It cuts acrylic and wood far better than any diode laser. Expensive, but the closest thing to a 'set up and run a small shop' desktop machine.
