TL;DR
The Polar 2 70W replaces the original Polar with a much larger 710 × 360 mm bed, a 70W glass CO₂ tube cooled by an internal 4.3 L water loop, a 16 MP full-bed camera, one-touch auto-focus and a rotary in the box. It is the cutting-first, lower-cost half of the Polar 2 line; the 50W RF version engraves faster and finer. No independent long-term review yet.

What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
Most cutting power in the Polar 2 line
The 70W glass tube cuts acrylic and plywood up to about 10 mm (our estimate) on a 710 × 360 mm bed, for $1,300 less than the RF version.
Water cooling built in
An internal 4.3 L closed loop replaces the external chiller or bucket most glass-tube CO₂ machines need. Check the coolant level before long cutting runs.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
The Polar 2 70W fixes the original Polar's main limit, its small bed, while keeping a desktop footprint. With the water loop built in and camera, auto-focus, rotary and LightBurn included, it is close to a turnkey CO₂ for acrylic signage, wooden boxes and small production runs.
Skip if you
A glass tube wears out faster than an RF source and is slower on fine engraving. There is no pass-through, the machine is large for a desk (about 1.2 m wide), and smoke must be vented outside. Specs are manufacturer figures until independent reviews arrive.
Pros
- 710 × 360 mm bed: about 60% more area than the original Polar, on a desk
- Internal 4.3 L closed water loop: no separate chiller or bucket to plumb
- Complete package: 16 MP full-bed camera, auto-focus, air assist, exhaust fan, rotary and LightBurn key
- Most raw cutting wattage for the money in the Polar 2 line
Cons
- Glass tube rated around 10,000 hours versus 30,000 for the RF version: plan a replacement
- No pass-through, so long sheets must be cut down first
- Brand-new model: no independent long-term review yet, specs are OMTech's

Practical notes
Beginner notes
This profile is the 70W glass-tube SKU of the Polar 2. Compare it with the 50W RF: choose the 70W if cutting acrylic and wood is most of your work and budget matters. Both share the same chassis, camera and software.
Pro tips
Check the coolant level and temperature before long cutting runs, even with the internal loop. Use the camera for job placement but verify alignment with a test mark. Duct the exhaust outside: the built-in fan moves smoke, it does not filter it.

Common questions
70W glass or 50W RF: which Polar 2 should I choose?
The 70W glass tube cuts thicker material for $1,300 less. The 50W RF tube engraves faster (up to 2,000 mm/s), with a finer spot and a tube rated for about three times longer, and needs no water loop. Cutting-first shops lean 70W; photo and detail engraving lean RF.
Does the Polar 2 70W need a water chiller?
Not a separate one: OMTech lists an internal 4.3 L closed-loop water cooling system. You still need to keep the coolant topped up and the room temperature reasonable.
Is the Polar 2 a replacement for the original Polar?
Yes. The original Polar 50W (400 × 300 mm) is no longer sold new by OMTech; the Polar 2 keeps the desktop format with a 710 × 360 mm bed.

xTool · CO₂ · $2,999 – $5,069
The P2S refines the original P2 with better software and autofocus. Same 55W CO₂ class for acrylic and wood production. Still xTool's main enclosed CO₂ below the P3 flagship: choose P3 if you need 80W and automation; P2S if 55W and budget fit.

Monport · CO₂ · $2,499 – $3,499
Monport Reno45 Pro Vision adds camera-assisted autofocus and a 45W CO₂ tube in a desktop format. Strong acrylic/wood cutter for makers stepping up from diode: plan ventilation and space.

xTool · CO₂ · $3,399 – $6,609
The xTool P2 is a 55W enclosed CO₂ laser with a large work area and camera alignment. It cuts acrylic and wood far better than any diode laser. Expensive, but the closest thing to a 'set up and run a small shop' desktop machine.
