33W

TL;DR

Acmer P2 33W is the high-power open-frame Acmer before the enclosed P3. Verify real optical output vs marketing: capable cutter for the price when tuned properly.

What makes this machine stand out

Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.

  • 12 mm plywood in one pass

Acmer's P2-33W sheet lists 10 mm plywood at 200 mm/min and 12 mm at 100 mm/min in a single pass, with the focus lowered 2 mm.

  • Shorter cut times

4 mm plywood at 500 mm/min instead of 300 on the 20W, and ~6–10 min for our 10 × 10 cm square in 3 mm basswood.

  • Fewer passes on black acrylic

6 mm opaque acrylic in 2 passes and 10 mm in 4, against 3 and 5 passes on the 20W (Acmer's figures).

Our verdict

Ideal if you

Acmer P2 33W targets mixed engraving and wood-cutting weeks: fewer passes on basswood and dark acrylic than weaker SKUs in the same line.

Skip if you

Wrong pick if you never engrave and only wanted the lowest price. Ultra-fine photo work can look better on an engraving-first SKU. Open-frame: safety and smoke are on you.

Pros

  • 12 mm plywood in one pass at 100 mm/min (focus lowered 2 mm) on Acmer's P2-33W sheet
  • Faster cutting on common stock: 4 mm plywood at 500 mm/min and 5 mm MDF in one pass
  • Basswood engraving preset at 13,000 mm/min: ~12–18 min for our 10 × 10 cm photo test

Cons

  • About $105 more than the 20W basic pack ($589 vs $484), and the 33W module alone costs $499
  • More smoke and heat at full power: the open frame needs an exhaust or the enclosure pack
  • Acmer's 'cut up to 30 mm wood' headline is not in its own sheet, which stops at 20 mm paulownia: anything thicker is multi-pass

Pro tips

Tune cut passes with air assist and focus checks. For photo engraving, slow down vs your cut presets: this head is optimized for throughput on wood, not only finesse.

Common questions

What does the Acmer P2 33W cut in a single pass?

Acmer's P2-33W sheet lists plywood at 500 mm/min (4 mm), 400 (6 mm), 300 (8 mm), 200 (10 mm) and 100 mm/min (12 mm, focus lowered 2 mm), all in one pass. It also gives 20 mm paulownia at 150 mm/min and 5 mm MDF at 200 mm/min. Black acrylic: 4 mm in one pass, 6 mm in 2, 10 mm in 4.

Is the 33W rating real optical power?

Acmer sells it as a 33W compressed diode module; we have not measured its optical output ourselves. The manufacturer's own presets are consistent with a real step up from the 20W: 4 mm plywood at 500 vs 300 mm/min, and 10 mm plywood in one pass instead of two.

Should I buy the 33W now or upgrade a P2 20W later?

Buy it now if there is a chance you will need it. On Acmer's store in October 2026 the basic packs were $484 (20W) and $589 (33W), a $105 gap, while the 33W upgrade module alone was $499. Refurbished units are also listed: $459 for the 20W and $527 for the 33W.

Acmer P3 24W laser engraver by Acmer

Acmer · Diode · $765 – $1,658

The P3 24W puts a 24W diode module in Acmer's enclosed P3 cabinet: Class 1 lid with flame detection, CoreXY gantry at 800 mm/s, a camera covering the full 400 × 400 mm bed and 30 L/min air assist. Acmer rates it for 12 mm plywood and 8 mm black acrylic in one pass. At $765 for the Basic Pack (October 2026) it is one of the lowest-priced enclosed diode lasers with a camera; it suits makers who mostly engrave and cut thin stock.

Sculpfun S30 Ultra 22W laser engraver by Sculpfun

Sculpfun · Diode · $690

The 22W is the middle of Sculpfun's three S30 Ultra heads (11W, 22W, 33W), often sold bundled with LightBurn. The 33W head goes further for thick cuts. Listings that say S30 Ultra 10W or 20W are reseller labels.

Longer Laser B1 30W laser engraver by Longer

Longer · Diode · $599 – $799

Longer Laser B1 30W is the 30W SKU on the Longer longer laser b1 line. Longer's large-format B1 20W diode: this profile is the 20W SKU only; Longer also sells 30W and 40W B1 machines separately. Verify optical power on the listing: do not assume combined-watt marketing.
