Announced September 2026
Coming soon
Bambu Lab has announced this machine but it is not shipping yet. Specs and price may still change. Expected November 2026.
TL;DR
The R1 is Bambu Lab's first standalone laser cutter, announced on September 22, 2026 and not yet delivered: pre-orders are open, with shipping now expected in November 2026. It is an enclosed 55W CO₂ machine with a 600 × 300 mm bed, up to 1,000 mm/s, a camera and sensor system for alignment and focus, and an optional conveyor for material up to 3 m long. Bambu Lab lists $2,499 / €2,499. Early hands-on reviews exist, but no buyer has received one yet, and specs, software and prices may still change before delivery.
Best for
What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
Camera and sensor alignment
A bird's-eye camera, toolhead cameras, a distance laser for focus and XY encoders place designs and adjust focus automatically.
Material up to 3 m long
With the optional riser base and conveyor, the R1 feeds stock up to 3,000 mm long through the 600 × 300 mm bed.
Bambu Lab ecosystem
The R1 uses the same Bambu Lab account, Bambu Suite software and MakerWorld project library as the brand's 3D printers.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
On paper, the R1 brings a full-size enclosed CO₂ laser to Bambu Lab's ecosystem at an aggressive launch price: a 600 × 300 mm bed, 1,000 mm/s, cameras, distance sensing and encoders for automatic alignment and focus, plus a conveyor for long parts. Makers who already use Bambu Lab printers and MakerWorld get one account and one software for both.
Skip if you
The machine is not delivered yet and shipping has already slipped once. Software is limited to Bambu Suite until LightBurn support arrives, and the enclosure loses its Class 1 rating with the riser base or conveyor. Ventilation, fire suppression and the precision encoder cost extra, so the real budget is higher than $2,499.
Pros
- 600 × 300 mm enclosed CO₂ bed at $2,499, below most enclosed 55W rivals
- Bird's-eye and toolhead cameras, distance laser and XY encoders for alignment and auto-focus
- Optional conveyor takes material up to 3 m long, and the riser base handles taller objects
Cons
- Not delivered yet: shipping slipped from October to November 2026 and there is no long-term feedback
- Bambu Suite only at launch; LightBurn support is promised without a date

Practical notes
Beginner notes
The R1 is announced but not yet in buyers' hands. If you need a CO₂ laser now, compare it with machines already shipping, such as the xTool P2S. Plan for ventilation: the R1 needs an exhaust to the outside or Bambu Lab's air purifier, sold separately.
Pro tips
Wait for the first deliveries and independent cutting tests before committing a business to it. If you plan to cut long parts, price the riser base and conveyor bundle from the start, and remember that the machine is no longer Class 1 with them fitted: eye protection becomes mandatory.

Common questions
When will the Bambu Lab R1 ship, and how much does it cost?
Pre-orders opened on September 22, 2026 at $2,499 in the US and €2,499 in Europe. Bambu Lab first announced shipping in October 2026; in October its stores showed estimated shipping dates in November 2026. Until machines are delivered, specs, prices and dates may still change.
What can the R1 cut?
Bambu Lab quotes up to 18 mm plywood and 20 mm acrylic, plus leather, paper and fabric. It also engraves glass, stone and coated metal. These are manufacturer figures; we have not measured cutting speeds or thicknesses yet.
R1 or xTool P2S?
Both are enclosed 55W CO₂ machines with a bed around 600 × 300 mm and camera placement. The P2S has been on sale for longer and supports LightBurn; the R1 costs less at launch and fits into Bambu Lab's software and MakerWorld. Until the R1 ships and is tested, the P2S is the safer choice.
Alternatives to the Bambu Lab R1
Machines in the same space, picked from our database by type, price, and score.

xTool · CO₂ · $2,999 – $5,069
The P2S refines the original P2 with better software and autofocus. Same 55W CO₂ class for acrylic and wood production. Still xTool's main enclosed CO₂ below the P3 flagship: choose P3 if you need 80W and automation; P2S if 55W and budget fit.

Gweike · CO₂ · $1,659 – $2,539
Gweike Cloud Pro offers enclosed CO₂ cutting with cloud features and competitive pricing vs xTool P2. Good mid-premium CO₂ if you want LightBurn and community support. Verify local warranty before buying.

OMTech · CO₂ · $3,700
The Polar 2 70W replaces the original Polar with a much larger 710 × 360 mm bed, a 70W glass CO₂ tube cooled by an internal 4.3 L water loop, a 16 MP full-bed camera, one-touch auto-focus and a rotary in the box. It is the cutting-first, lower-cost half of the Polar 2 line; the 50W RF version engraves faster and finer. No independent long-term review yet.
