15W

TL;DR

The Ray7 15W sits one step above the entry model at $299.99 on Longer's store (October 2026). It keeps a fine 0.06 × 0.08 mm spot for detail while cutting 3 mm basswood in a single pass by our estimate, on the same 405 × 410 mm open frame with Wi-Fi and 600 mm/s motion. For hobbyists who engrave most of the time and cut boxes or ornaments now and then, it is the best-balanced price in the range.

What makes this machine stand out

Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.

  • Fine detail and 3 mm cuts

A 0.06 × 0.08 mm spot for engraving and, by our estimate, one-pass cuts in 3 mm basswood.

  • $70 above the entry model

At $299.99 in October 2026, the 15W adds real cutting ability for a small price step.

Our verdict

Ideal if you

The 15W is the sweet spot of the Ray7 range on price: it keeps a fine spot for detailed engraving and cuts the 3 mm stock most hobby projects use, for a little under $300 with a full-size bed and Wi-Fi.

Skip if you

Thicker plywood and dark acrylic need many passes; buyers who cut every week will outgrow it. Open frame: safety glasses and smoke extraction are required. No independent tests of the Ray7 yet, so speed and reliability figures rest on Longer's data and our estimates.

Pros

  • Still a fine 0.06 × 0.08 mm spot according to Longer, close to the entry module for photos
  • Cuts 3 mm basswood in one pass and about 5 mm with air assist by our estimate
  • $299.99 in October 2026, only $70 more than the entry Ray7 for roughly twice the cutting capacity

Cons

  • Plywood beyond about 6 mm needs several slow passes
  • No air pump in the box: clean cuts need the optional pump
  • Very new machine: no independent cutting tests published yet

Practical notes

Beginner notes

This profile is the 15W version of the Longer Ray7. It suits buyers who engrave most of the time and cut ornaments, coasters and small boxes in 3 mm wood. Compare the other Ray7 versions with the chips above if you plan regular cuts above 6 mm. The frame, bed and software are the same across the range.

Pro tips

Add the air pump before cutting: it keeps edges cleaner and lets you raise the speed. Run a test grid on each new plywood batch, as glue layers vary. For photos, slow the fill and lower the power slightly to keep the narrow spot sharp.

Common questions

How thick can the Ray7 15W cut?

Longer does not publish per-version cutting figures. By our estimate it cuts 3 mm basswood in one pass, about 5 mm with air assist, and 6 mm plywood in several passes. Dense hardwoods and MDF cut slower.

Ray7 15W or Ray7 20W?

The 20W costs $429.99 against $299.99 for the 15W (Longer store, October 2026). The $130 step buys faster cuts and better results on 5–8 mm wood; if you mostly engrave, the 15W keeps a finer spot and the savings can pay for the air pump.

Is an air pump needed on the Ray7 15W?

For engraving, no. For cutting, it is strongly recommended: it clears smoke from the cut, reduces scorching and allows higher speeds. Longer sells it as an option for this version.
