TL;DR
The Ray7 7.5W is the cheapest version of Longer's new open-frame engraver: $229.99 on Longer's store in October 2026. It keeps the Ray7 frame, 600 mm/s motion, Wi-Fi and 405 × 410 mm bed, with the finest spot of the range at 0.06 × 0.06 mm. It is an engraver first: cutting stops at thin wood, card and felt, and takes several passes.
Best for
What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
0.06 × 0.06 mm spot
The smallest laser spot Longer lists for the Ray7, for sharper portraits and small text.
Full-size bed at $229.99
The same 405 × 410 mm working area as the bigger modules for the lowest Ray7 price in October 2026.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
The 7.5W Ray7 brings Longer's new frame, Wi-Fi and 600 mm/s motion to a budget price, and its 0.06 × 0.06 mm spot is the sharpest in the range for portraits, fine lettering and small logos.
Skip if you
It is not a cutter: anything beyond thin basswood, card and felt needs many passes. Open frame: wear safety glasses and extract the smoke. The Ray7 is new, so long-term reliability is not yet documented by independent reviews.
Pros
- Finest beam of the Ray7 range at 0.06 × 0.06 mm according to Longer, well suited to photos and small text
- $229.99 for a 405 × 410 mm bed with Wi-Fi and 600 mm/s motion (Longer store, October 2026)
- Low-power module is easier to tune on leather, paper and card without burning through
Cons
- Cutting is limited to thin material: about 2–3 mm basswood per pass by our estimate
- Photo fills take roughly 24–36 min for 10 × 10 cm by our estimate, the slowest of the range
- Air pump, autofocus and camera are all extras on top of the $229.99 price

Practical notes
Beginner notes
This profile is the 7.5W version of the Longer Ray7. Take it if you mostly engrave gifts, signs and photos and rarely cut. Compare the other Ray7 versions with the chips above if cutting plywood matters: the frame, bed and software stay the same, only the laser module changes. It is a new machine with no independent reviews yet.
Pro tips
Work at high power and moderate speed for dark, even photo engraving, and save cutting for paper, card, felt and 2–3 mm basswood in two passes. Use the 50 mm focal distance carefully: without the optional autofocus, refocus each time the material thickness changes.

Common questions
What can the Ray7 7.5W cut?
Longer does not publish cutting figures for this version. By our estimate it cuts paper, card, felt, thin leather and about 2–3 mm basswood per pass; 3 mm plywood takes two passes or more. Treat it as an engraver with occasional light cuts.
Ray7 7.5W or Ray7 15W?
The 15W costs $299.99 against $229.99 for the 7.5W (Longer store, October 2026). For $70 more it roughly doubles cutting capacity and speeds up fills; keep the 7.5W only if you engrave almost exclusively and value the finest spot.
Is the Ray7 7.5W a good first laser?
Yes for engraving on a budget: belts come pre-installed, it connects over Wi-Fi and works with Longer Studio or LightBurn. As an open-frame laser it needs safety glasses, ventilation and a fire-safe surface.

Longer · Diode · $240 – $720
Longer Ray5 10W is the 10W SKU on the Longer longer ray5 line. Longer's compact Ray5 20W diode engraver: verify you are buying the 20W SKU, not the 5W, 10W, or 40W Ray5 listings. Verify optical power on the listing: do not assume combined-watt marketing.

Creality · Diode · $269 – $299
The Falcon A1C 5W puts Creality's 5W diode in the same closed Class 1 box as the 10W: 150 × 150 mm bed, motorized lifting platform, auto-focus. It is an engraving machine first: cork, bamboo, leather, slate and plywood look sharp, but cutting is limited to card and thin wood. The 10W module can be added later.
