TL;DR
The Q3 30W is the entry version of OMTech's 3-in-1 fiber marker, listed on OMTech's store at the end of October 2026. The same machine works as a desktop column, as a split setup with the processing unit off the base, or as a handheld marker with a 3.2 kg quick-release head that keeps the 150 × 150 mm field. OMTech lists 3 mm deep engraving, a 0.06 mm minimum line width, 10,000 mm/s and a 170 mm processing height. At $1,799.99 (OMTech store, October 2026, regular price $3,599.99) it costs about $200 more than a fixed compact 30W fiber; deep engraving is slow, focus is manual and the laser is Class 4.
Best for
What makes this machine stand out
Hardware and workflow features worth understanding before you buy : not just wattage on a label.
Handheld head included
The quick-release head comes off the column and keeps the 150 × 150 mm field, for marking cabinets, panels or parts that cannot be moved to the machine.
3-in-1 for $1,799.99
At $1,799.99 on OMTech's store in October 2026, the Q3 30W costs little more than a fixed compact 30W fiber while adding the split and handheld modes.
Our verdict
Ideal if you
The 30W Q3 is a sensible first fiber for marking metal tags, nameplates and tools, with a feature fixed desktop fibers do not have at this price: a handheld head for objects that cannot go under the column. The 150 × 150 mm field is also larger than on most compact 30W markers.
Skip if you
Deep engraving takes a long time at 30W, and focus is manual, which slows mixed batches. As a Class 4 laser it needs goggles and a controlled area, and its Q-switched source cannot produce colors on stainless steel. No owner feedback exists yet.
Pros
- Desktop, split and quick-release handheld modes in one machine, for parts that do not fit under a column
- $1,799.99 in October 2026: about $200 more than a fixed Gweike G2 30W, for a larger 150 × 150 mm field and the handheld head
- 170 mm processing height and 0–30° head tilt for tall or angled parts
Cons
- Deep engraving is slow: OMTech's own example took about 110 minutes, almost twice as long as on the more powerful version
- Manual focus: recheck the height for every part of a different thickness
- Class 4 open laser: goggles and a controlled area are required, unlike enclosed Class 1 machines

Practical notes
Beginner notes
This profile is the 30W version of the OMTech Q3. It suits a first fiber laser for tags, nameplates, tools and jewelry, with the handheld head as a bonus for large parts. Compare the other Q3 version with the chips above if deep engraving or volume matters.
Pro tips
For deep logos, run several fast passes rather than one slow pass and check depth between them. Use the split mode to keep the processing unit off a small bench, and keep the safety shield and goggles on for every job, handheld included.

Common questions
What does 3-in-1 mean on the OMTech Q3 30W?
The machine works as a desktop marker on its column, as a split setup with the processing unit moved off the base (about 15 minutes to convert), or as a handheld marker with the 3.2 kg quick-release head pressed flat against the part. The marking field stays 150 × 150 mm in every mode.
Q3 30W or 50W?
Same modes, field, software and manual focus; the difference is speed. In OMTech's deep-engraving example, the 30W took about 110 minutes and the 50W about 60. The 50W costs $900 more ($2,699.99 against $1,799.99 on OMTech's store, October 2026). Take the 30W for shallow marks on tags and tools, the 50W if deep engraving or volume pays.
Can the Q3 30W mark wood or plastics?
OMTech designs it for metals: steel, aluminum, brass, titanium, gold and silver. Some hard plastics and stone may work after testing, but OMTech says not to process wood, paper, PVC or PTFE. For wood and leather, look at a diode or a dual laser.
Alternatives to the OMTech Q3 30W

Gweike · Fiber · $1,599 – $1,799
Gweike G2 Pro 30W Fiber is the 30W SKU on the Gweike gweike g2 line. Gweike G2 packages a 20W fiber galvo in a desktop form factor. Verify optical power on the listing: do not assume combined-watt marketing.

Monport · Fiber · $2,440 – $2,690
Monport GT 30W brings split-cabinet fiber marking with autofocus: useful for varying part heights. Strong alternative to Gweike G6 in the same class.

Sculpfun · Fiber · $1,499
The Sculpfun G20 is a 20W 1064 nm fiber galvo on an open stand, launched in August 2026. It marks and engraves stainless, aluminium, brass, gold and titanium over a 150 × 150 mm field, with a motorized Z column, dual red-dot focusing and Wi-Fi. Sculpfun claims 10,000 mm/s, a 0.01 mm spot, engraving up to 1.5 mm deep and colour marking on stainless and titanium. No independent review yet; the open frame means you handle 1064 nm safety yourself.
