Sculpfun now sells the S10 and S30 lines as its current models, so the S9 is mostly a used or refurbished buy: Sculpfun's own store listed a refurbished S9 at $129.99 in October 2026. This profile matches the original S9, which uses a 5.5W optical diode. Check the module hours, the lens and that the frame is square, and be wary of paying much more than $150–200 for a used unit.
How thick can the S9 5W cut?
Sculpfun's original listing claimed up to 15 mm of wood and 10 mm of black acrylic, but those figures need many slow passes. In our benchmarks a 10 × 10 cm square in 3 mm basswood takes about 9–15 min at 2–3 mm/s, so 3 mm is the practical limit for clean cuts. Clear acrylic cannot be cut at all.
S9 5W or S9 10W: which one fits me?
Take the 5W if you mostly engrave wood signs, leather and slate and want the lowest price ($199–299 on our tracked listings, against $299–449 for the 10W).
