How thick can the D1 Pro 40W cut?
xTool rated the 40W module for 15 mm basswood plywood and 15 mm black acrylic in one pass. Our materials list stays more conservative at about 10 mm basswood for clean, repeatable cuts. A 10 × 10 cm square in 3 mm basswood took about 4–6 min in our benchmark.
Is the D1 Pro 40W good for engraving?
It is fast, at about 7–10 min for a 10 × 10 cm photo fill in our benchmark, but its wider beam gives slightly softer photo detail than the low-power heads. If engraving is most of your work, a 10W or 20W head gives finer results for less money.
Should I buy a D1 Pro 40W used?
Only if you need the cutting depth. It sold for about $999 new and the D1 Pro is now discontinued, so check the module, lens and air assist, and remember that the open frame needs an enclosure or good ventilation for the extra smoke of thick cuts.
